The Types of Dry Eye

Inadequate tears leads to Dry Eyes, but the reason for the inadequacies can differ. Dry Eyes is either caused by decreased tear production, or caused by your tears evaporating too quickly. Both of these causes could be due to the glands in your eyes not functioning properly:

Malfunctioning glands can’t take all the blame, there are other factors that can lead to both types of Dry Eyes:

Aqueous-Deficient Dry Eye:
  • Aging

  • Certain medications

  • LASIK

  • Certain medical conditions

Evaporative Dry Eye:
  • Wind, smoke and dry air

  • Blinking less
